Visiting Protection Island is easy via privately run ferry which runs from Nanaimo Harbour to the Dingy Dock Pub and Restaurant.  This unique floating pub is a short paddle and one of our favourite kayaking destinations.

Mount Washington Alpine Resort
Known for its spectacular ocean to alpine views, it's one of British Columbia‚Äôs finest alpine and nordic winter sport resorts and summer alpine destinations - and it's only 100 km north of Nanaimo.

Tofino and Ucluelet
Located north of Long Beach National Park, Tofino is the western end of the Trans-Canada Hwy.  It's a beautiful 3-hour drive to a wonderful destination.
Ucluelet is perched on the edge of the Pacific Ocean in one of the world's most pristine coastlines rich in tradition and natural beauty.

Vancouver 

You can easily make a day-trip to Vancouver from Nanaimo.  It's a beautiful journey taking only 100 minutes to Horseshoe Bay, and a connecting city bus will take you downtown.  There is no need to bring your car.
